Trying Thai Massage for the first time can feel a little unfamiliar, especially if you are used to a traditional table massage.
At Thai Healing Center, your practitioner will guide you through the experience and adapt the treatment to your comfort, mobility, and individual needs.
Before Your Treatment
Your practitioner will speak with you briefly about how you are feeling, any areas of tension or stiffness, and anything that may affect your comfort during the appointment.
This is also a good time to ask questions or mention if you prefer a gentler or stronger treatment.
What Should You Wear?
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is usually performed fully clothed on a comfortable floor mat.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily, such as exercise pants, leggings, or a comfortable shirt. Avoid tight jeans or clothing that restricts movement.
Other treatments, including Thai Oil Massage, may be performed on a massage table and may require different preparation.
What Happens During the Treatment?
Thai Massage may include rhythmic pressure, assisted movement, gentle stretching, and focused work on areas of tension.
Your practitioner may use their hands, thumbs, forearms, elbows, knees, or feet, depending on the treatment and your comfort level.
You are not expected to be flexible. Your practitioner will support your body and adjust each movement to suit you.
Communication Is Important
You should always feel comfortable speaking up during your treatment.
Let your practitioner know if:
- The pressure feels too strong
- A stretch feels uncomfortable
- You need to change position
- You would like more or less attention in a certain area
Thai Massage should feel supportive and appropriate for your body.
After Your Appointment
Take a little time to move slowly and notice how your body feels.
Some clients leave feeling relaxed, lighter, or more comfortable in their movement. Drinking water and avoiding strenuous activity immediately afterward may also help you ease back into your day.
Not Sure Which Treatment to Choose?
Thai Yoga Massage is a good introduction to traditional Thai bodywork. Thai Oil Massage may feel more familiar for clients who prefer an oil-based treatment on a massage table.
